Roadtrip 2016 - Day #4
July 8, 2016

Fort Garry Hotel, Winnipeg
Today was mostly overcast, so it was not a fantastic day for photos. It was a good day for exploring though. I dropped in at the tourist information centre and the Manitoba border and the woman there had some helpful ideas. I ended up looping north to check out Grand Beach on Lake Winnipeg. Because it was cool and overcast, the beach was not very busy. But it was still nice to get out and go for a walk in the sand.
While I was eating lunch at the diner at Grand Beach, I had a look online to see if I could find someplace interesting to spend the night. I found a great deal on a room at the Fort Garry Hotel. It's kind of like Winnipeg's version of the Royal York. It's in a good location - right near The Forks. It was opened in 1913, and according to Wikipedia it is haunted. Well, at least one room is - Room #202, which is thankfully six floors away from me.
After checking in, I went for a walk around The Forks. It's a very cool area - it reminds me a bit of Byward Market. And it's adjacent to where the Red River and the Assiniboine River meet, so it has a lot of historical importance.
I tried to go to a yoga class in Kenora yesterday, only to discover that the studio there has shut down. I had better look today. It turns out that the largest yoga studio in Canada is just a few walkable blocks from the Fort Garry Hotel. So I got to stretch out my back a bit tonight after all the hours driving over the last few days.
I apologize for the duck photos. I think I must have a bit of a duck fetish based on all the duck pictures I've taken this year! Anyway, there were an unbelievable number of goslings and ducklings hanging out down at the river tonight, and it gave me something to point the camera at on an otherwise unphotographic day.
